A highly affectionate, highly trainable, great with young children cat. On the practical side: low grooming demands and minimal drool.

About the Toyger.

The Toyger is a designer breed deliberately bred to resemble a miniature tiger. Unlike the Bengal (which has wild Asian Leopard Cat ancestry), the Toyger is fully domestic, descending from Bengal lines crossed with tabby Domestic Shorthairs. Breeding work continues to refine the tiger-like vertical stripes and facial markings.

Personality and behaviour

Active, athletic, trainable, less intense than a Bengal. Many Toygers fetch and harness walk.

Care and grooming

Weekly rub with a rubber mitt.

Indoor vs outdoor in New Zealand

Common questions.

Is the Toyger a hybrid like a Bengal?
No wild blood directly. The breed descends from Bengal lines (which trace back to the Asian Leopard Cat) plus tabby Domestic Shorthair, but the Toyger itself is a domestic-only breed. Like SBT Bengals, NZ-registered Toygers are unrestricted.

If the Toyger appeals, also consider.
